Despite the loss and pain in Peter’s life, he’s worked hard to try and remember the words of those that raised him.. Not only in trying to remember about the great responsibility in his life as his uncle told him, but in remembering that May is right. Despite all he’s been through, all of the changes he’s experienced, he’s still a good person.

Even before he was transformed, he went out of his way to try and stop someone from bullying others, stepping in to try and do what he could. Then after, when he found how easy it would be to use his abilities to humiliate and take revenge, he is reminded about his father’s beliefs of doing good for others. It is in this that Peter finds himself time and again throughout his struggles, seeking to do good even when his heart is broken and his world has fallen apart.

Sometimes doing the right thing is harder than not. Yet time and again he beseeches those he could easily overpower to try and get them to make the right choices in life. To choose the path of good.

This is something that Peter is tested on time and again throughout his own arc and into the multiverse as he finds himself facing the moral choice of who he could be, and who he wants to be. From little stunts and tricks like taunting car thieves, to making the choice to give up on trying to catch the bad guy to save someone. When things get hard, when it would be easier to make darker choices - or even hedging his bets on morally grey - Peter time and again chooses to do what’s right. Even if it means going back on his word to someone, to do what’s right and honorable for the woman he loves.

Losing her breaks him entirely, taking a brilliant and sometimes wicked boy and turning him into a shell of the man he had once been. Yet even in that time, he still manages to push himself to do what’s right, to be as good as May said he could be. But it has become harder and harder over time to draw himself out of his bitterness and rage to do the right thing.

In the end, no matter how hard life is or what he’s been through, Peter Parker is a good person. It runs deep within him and while it’s been kind of buried for so much time since losing the love of his life, it is still there beneath the surface and likely to be brought out from time to time to help others and finding himself in a place where he can’t avoid connecting with others. Much as he was in the place of his canon point where he isn’t left alone to his pain and anger and is finding himself once more.

Despite being deep down a good person, Peter has dealt with so much coming down on his head through the years that it’s become harder and harder for him to deny the darker sides of his personality.

After losing his parents as a young man, he learns years later that they were murdered for information. Devoting himself to learning how they’d died and who was behind their death, he finds himself falling down a hole of anger and sadness that is only added to over the years.

His uncle’s death takes away the male role model he’s always had. He watches his actions risking the life of the woman he loves time and again, knowing the chances he’s taking despite the promise he made to a dying man. He tries to make it work, fails time and again, and then he witnesses his very actions taking the life of the woman he loves, and he finds himself unable to live with himself. Words he had spoken before but now that he truly feels. He had seen this coming and then it came true. He causes Gwen’s death and coping with that has been one of the hardest things Peter has ever done.

It causes him to fall down into a pit of emotions where he forgets about the good man he is, and can only focus on that pain filled fire within. The limits that came from protecting others, from being there for people, it’s lost on him for years as he acts as the vigilante he is without the filter to draw himself back as he should. It leads to him spending years taking out the anger he feels for his own failure and all of his losses on those that attack the city. It’s a case of making an easy target because when criminals are attacked and hurt, officials look the other way. It’s violence he can justify in his anger, that he’s doing the right thing for the city, and letting out the darkness within.

Only recently he finds a way to start healing, in seeing that there is another side that he had forgotten about over the years and it comes in knowing himself in new ways. In ways that are created for by the multiverse.

Negative Trait:

Bitter

What began with being orphaned at a young age, slowly begins to build and grow over the years. Especially in the years after he is bitten. The greatest gift he’s ever had, becoming Spider-Man, and it slowly starts pulling his life apart. Being perceived as both hero and masked menace, he finds himself caught between who he thinks he should be and what he thinks he should do - while constantly facing the ideas others have on just who and what he is.

It’s a constant barrage of failures and losses that begin to build up on Peter in the course of a very short time. One person after another who he isn’t able to save. Watching the city being destroyed and while he saves lives, people talk about how the things he does makes others pay for his actions. The final straw, that one thing that will forever hangover Peter’s head, is that loss of Gwen. It’s a reminder that no matter how hard he tries, no matter what all of the work he does, he still can’t save everyone. He can’t stay Spider-Man and protect those he loves - a lesson learned time and again amongst the webslingers across the multiverse.

All of this weighs heavily on Peter and the years since Gwen’s death it hasn’t gotten any better. He develops a bitterness that he’s dealing with this to this day. Bitterness of his own failure. A bitterness for the city he has fought for, for the death of a woman he loved with all his heart, and a bitterness that has consumed him for years. It leaves him with less humor than he once had, letting more things happen around him before he steps in to help.

This bitterness hasn’t entirely consumed him though as he found out when stepping through a portal opened by a boy in another world. In doing so he’s been given a moment of redemption and a reminder that he can’t give up when he is able to save MJ Watson. In Duplicity he is coming from this moment, and realizing that he doesn’t always have to live with this bitterness.

Before the loss of Gwen, Peter’s worst traits had to do with a lack of confidence, a fear of loss, and emotions that were about being a brilliant child with missing parents and a rough life despite not so bad. After her death, a death he has never forgiven himself for, he has changed. Angry and unforgiving, almost cruel in many ways when it comes to the villains that he runs up against as Spider-Man, and all of that comes back to his own feelings for himself and his failings.

It was a spiral in his life that started before Gwen’s tragic death though. Starting with Ben’s death, something he’s held close to his heart - especially his lack of ability to do what he could to help - then to finding out how much he has hurt Aunt May over the years by holding onto his parents and not seeing what May and Ben had done for him. Harry Osborn’s return reminds Peter of the friends he’s left behind, and then facing what he couldn’t do for Harry that led to the changes when he infected himself with the spider venom. All of it weighs down onto Peter’s shoulders, time and again, adding to the feelings of self loathing that start to take hold of him.

Then that night, when he tries to save Gwen and fails, he loses all he has left of his self esteem. All he’s done to save others, he’s failed when it matters the most. When all he had as Spider-Man failed him and Peter gave up. For months he wallowed in his pain, gave up on everything and everyone including being Spider-Man. For a time he lets his life be nothing but pain and misery and with that came self loathing. A hatred for himself and his failings. Eventually he dragged himself out of the worst of it. During a breakdown he listens to Gwen’s valedictorian speech and that brought about a reminder of what he needed to do. For himself and, more importantly, for those he could protect.

After that day he started working hard to bring himself up to a working level, to be able to go back to being Spidey. And while he has done this, all he does is tinged by his anger and his bitterness. Something that has haunted him for years. Recently though he has had a chance to redeem himself. After stepping through a portal, he had a chance to redeem himself in saving MJ when he couldn’t save Gwen. This is the moment he’s brought into the game from, and it will have a bearing on how he handles himself and who he is in game. He won’t be over his self loathing, far from it, but it will put him at a point of trying to work through that pain through the game dynamics.

Powers and Abilities:

• Spidey Sense: Peter’s spidey sense is a superhuman ability that combines with his other enhanced senses and his reflexes to lend him an almost supernatural ability to know when danger is near. That tingling is an early warning system that has saved his life on more than one occasion.
• Wall Crawling: Due to his mutation, Peter is able to scale objects merely by clinging to them with a supernatural seeming attraction.
• Genius Intelligence: A student of chemistry, engineering, and physics, Peter shows time and again that he is above average in intelligence. He both makes his webbing formula, something his father hadn’t worked out entirely, as well as constructing his webshooters (which have their issues but that’s neither here nor there). He also helps to perfect the formula that changes Connor into the lizardman that Peter has to stop.
• superhuman strength, stamina, and durability. Including skin that is tougher than the average human, the ability to fall from great heights without great harm, and the ability to take on superpowered beings as well to jump higher and farther than the average person
