i don't want to wake up and find you gone like i did wade. to just... not feel you there anymore. i know it's a risk with the connection i made for us but... i can't imagine myself without it now. without being able to feel you there.
i don't think you know how much of my day i spend just knowing you're there. and i like that. i don't want to lose that. being in jail was awful, even if i could text you.
As always with Nate, it doesn't really matter where Peter is, because he can be there within his mind in a matter of seconds.
Coming up behind him, arms wrap around Peter, face pressing between shoulder blades as hands gently clutch at the man's chest. Telepathically, of course, but. Nate's pretty good at making this all seem and feel real.
There's a small part of Peter's mind that knows it's not them physically together and yet that's part of what means the most to him. They are always close to one another and that connection lets that happen and makes it so they can always have this.
"I don't ever want to lose this," he whispers, his hand moving to cover Nate's, stroking his fingers over his hand. "I don't want to lose you."
He presses his face between those shoulder blades a little more, sinking into the warmth that feels so real there with him. Having been, what they had thought, torn from one another and so abruptly — a matter of days — Nate feels particularly... needy in some way. As though he might wake here only to find their time up and for real this time, with so many moments they've shared together to be forgotten, and countless they've yet to share.
Turning his hand some, he lets his fingers brush over Peter's, blue eyes slowly blinking despite the way his face presses between those shoulder blades. "I know," he murmurs. "I don't want to lose you either. I didn't think I'd find someone like you here..." Someone he was afraid to lose.
They were tossed into so much after they were torn from their home and from one another, that it was easy to pretend like life was normal again and that they're just back into their life here.
But it's not entirely true, because now that specter is hanging over their head, that feeling when they were literally and physically torn apart and lost one another.
His fingers move to twine with Nate's, clinging to him in that moment.
"I know." Again that soft whisper, the pain in his tones, the emotions almost overpowering him. "I didn't even think I could love Nate, and you proved me wrong. I can't lose you."
He never thought he'd recover... Yet here they are. He knows he'll never make it again.
"We will find a way, Nate. We have this connection. We have both traveled to other worlds and times outside of this place. We will stay together."
There's something that makes his chest flutter — a fierceness of wanting to keep this safe and protected... to keep Peter safe and protected and with him, even if that means in this place that can be so cruel to them all at times. If not for ending up here, he would have never met Peter... never met Wade... never have had the chance to experience so much of what he has here... what he has with this man.
Lifting his head some, he presses his chin between those shoulder blades then and looks up from behind Peter, still holding to him and the hand which Peter has in his own.
"I love you," words soft but so very genuine. "I love you in ways I never thought I would. You're my Peter now... you're the only one I need." A realization where, if he were to never see the Peter he knows back home again in exchange for this one right here... it's what he would want. What he finds himself wanting the longer he's here.
Peter can almost feel the gaze of those brilliant blue eyes on him and it leaves him almost hurting to just cling to the other man and never let him go. To hold tight to this beautiful and bright man and never let him go. Not to go back to his world. Not to let him go back to his death. Not to even let death have him.
"I'm yours, Nate," he whispers. "Don't leave me. I can't..." He shakes his head and he shifts, partially turning towards him, into him, not wanting to move away from the man he loves and yet wanting to see him. 'I need you. Always. I love you."
The words are thick, caught up in need and emotions, of a love that feels overwhelming in the best possible ways.
The voices that had been drowning his own out slowly begin to fade away and as Nate himself drifts there in his telekinetic bubble he's shielded himself up in high above the city, he finds himself reaching out to Peter with the expanse of his mind... and he takes himself there. To Peter. Physically.
As if he'd always been there in the flesh, fingers card through the other man's hair as he turns Peter into him and warmly envelopes him within his arms, hugging him close as he breathes in his scent and his presence. A gentle nuzzle, he squeezes Peter, still holding to him as blue eyes gently blink themselves open and he takes a second to look around... finding himself actually here and no longer above the city. Huh. Not about to question it, he instead noses at Peter then and hums softly as fingers stroke along a shoulder.
"You have me, Pete. Always..." and, after only a second of hesitation. "...I promise."
The shift is so subtle, something that takes this very real seeming moment in their minds to the true contact of their bodies as Nate turns Peter into his embrace. Wrapping his arms around him and pressing close as he feels the heat of Nate's body, the scent of him that is almost like ozone in Peter's mind in that moment from where he's been floating high above the sitting.
Pressing in close, loving the way he fits in against Nate's body. Like he was made to be right in that space and in that moment.
Then Nate makes that promise and he tightens his hold on him as if by that force he could keep him close.
"Nate." His voice cracks slightly, needing it to be true. "If you can come to me like that, then you can always find me. I believe that."
Tips of fingers stroking along the other man's jaw, Nate noses at Peter then, blue eyes falling shut, and he just stays with him like that for a moment. Right here in this place that's become theirs — become their home within Duplicity. He stays like that before he lets himself steal a sweet kiss from that mouth and he finds himself smiling against it as he pushes what he's feeling through their connection.
An unwavering and fiercely protective love for Peter.
"Even if this place takes away everything that we've had, I know some part of me will still remember..." Nosing at him again, he stares to Peter in such a gentle way. "...the heart never really forgets."
It's easy to hold on to the fear this place can bring and bury it down deep and pretend its not there, that its not bother you. It's easy to go on with your life and pretend things are normal but they're not. Even if this is home to him and the one that he wants to keep. He never wants to give up his life with Nate. Wherever it is.
If Peter was ever asked what the most romantic, loving words a person could hear, those would be them. Not just the vow that he won't forget but that they won't let one another go.
"It can't take this away from us. I can't believe that. I wont'. Which means we will find a way. When you have your full powers back outside of this place, I know you'll find me if we ever get sent back."
A slow nod, Nate simply presses his forehead to Peter's then.
"I know," two words that are just as soft as his touch there to the man's neck. "Somehow I'll find the power to. Even if it takes me awhile." Hopefully just... before his time is up and his body burns out from that power.
Slowly, he gives a quiet shake of his head then and kisses Peter, letting himself pull back enough to really look to him because... yeah. He's here — really here in their house and no longer drifting above the city in his telekinetic little bubble. A blink of those blue eyes, he smiles a little sheepishly.
"Kind of like how I found myself to you here... all of a sudden."

We know it can be done. Just this place screws with it, I think. Those kind of magics.

i don't want to be without you. i don't want to have to say goodbye to you like that again.
